After nearly eight years of mystery and heartbreak, a Pennsylvania man has been arrested for the murder of his wife, Anna Maciejewska, who went missing in April 2017. The case, which puzzled authorities and shocked the local community, has now taken a major turn with new evidence pointing to Anna’s husband, Allen Gould, as the primary suspect.
Anna Disappears Without a Trace
On April 11, 2017, Anna’s friend and co-worker called the police after she failed to show up for work. The next day, her husband Allen Gould also reported her missing, claiming she had rushed out of the house on April 10 for work. But investigators found something strange — no one had seen or heard from Anna since March 28, 2017, almost two weeks earlier.
Clues Point to Something More Sinister
When police visited the couple’s home in Chester County, they found Anna’s iPhone and iPad left on the kitchen table. Her phone had been reset, and although Gould said she left it behind because it was updating, police found this suspicious. Her car keys and other belongings were still at home.
Authorities also found divorce papers inside the house. A close friend of Anna told police that she was unhappy in her marriage and wanted a divorce, but Gould refused to agree.
Family Struggles and Suspicions
Anna and Allen had a 4-year-old son at the time of her disappearance. A source told police that the two often argued about parenting, especially because the child had dual citizenship with Poland. Gould was reportedly afraid he would lose his parental rights if Anna took their son back to Poland.
Investigators also learned that in the days before she vanished, Anna had been searching for information on emotional abuse, narcissistic personality disorder, and how to divorce an emotionally abusive husband. She had visited over 150 related websites, showing how serious her concerns were.
Suspicious Behaviour After Her Disappearance
After reporting his wife missing, Gould stopped cooperating with police, hired a criminal defense lawyer, and even searched online about strangulation, according to court records. He also got a new phone shortly after the report.
Anna’s car was later found just a few miles from their home. Police discovered that the car had never started on the morning of April 10, contradicting Gould’s original story.
One more suspicious detail came to light — on March 30, just before Anna was reported missing, her father received a birthday message in Polish that was full of mistakes. Authorities later found out the message had been created using Google Translate, even though Anna was fluent in Polish. The printed message was found inside Gould’s home.
A Mother Who Wouldn’t Just Leave
Investigators said Anna was a devoted mother and very close to her family in Poland. It was completely out of character for her to abandon her child and family without any contact.
Even though Anna’s body has never been found, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office believes there is enough evidence to prove that Gould murdered her.
Charges Filed Against Allen Gould
On May 14, 2025, Allen Gould was officially charged with:
- First-degree murder
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Other related charges
He is currently being held in Chester County Prison without bail.
District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said, “Thanks to the persistence and thorough investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police, we are able to start the process of getting justice for Anna and her family.”
