Police in Texas Seize More Than 500 Pounds of Weed

The New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) had a busy weekend, making two major drug-related arrests during routine traffic stops. While some people are applauding the action, others online are questioning whether these busts were really necessary. Let’s take a look at what happened.

Friday: THC Cartridges Found in Vehicle

On Friday, NBPD pulled over a vehicle and discovered over 1300 grams of THC cartridges inside—that’s almost three pounds of illegal cannabis vape products. The vehicle had four people inside, all from Corpus Christi, Texas.

The group included:

  • One 17-year-old
  • Two 18-year-olds
  • One 20-year-old

After officers found the cartridges, all four were arrested and taken to Comal County Jail. They were charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. Each of them posted a $50,000 bond to get out of jail.

Saturday: Man Caught With 500 Pounds of Marijuana

The second bust happened on Saturday, when police pulled over a man from Oklahoma. During the stop, officers discovered he was carrying over 500 pounds of marijuana.

The 53-year-old male was also sent to Comal County Jail and held on a $30,000 bond. While no further details were shared, a K9 officer (adorably featured in a police Facebook post) appeared to be involved in this seizure.

Community Reactions: Mixed Opinions

After NBPD shared the news on Facebook, people started sharing their opinions in the comments. Some praised the police for keeping illegal drugs off the streets, calling it a win for the community. Others felt that this was a waste of police resources, especially when there are more dangerous crimes that need attention.

This kind of reaction is common whenever police take strong action against marijuana-related cases, especially in places where opinions about legalization are divided.

The legal process will now continue for all those arrested. Since all four young adults from Friday’s case have already posted bond, they’ll await court proceedings. The man from Saturday’s bust may also be released after posting bond unless further charges are added.
