On December 29, 2023, the Texas Rangers arrived in Nacogdoches to investigate an officer-involved shooting, as is standard procedure. According to a press release from the Nacogdoches Police Department, an unidentified officer attempted a traffic stop at South Fredonia Street and South Street.
During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle fired several rounds at the officer. At least one of the bullets struck the officer’s vehicle, but he was not injured in the shooting.
The officer returned fire on the vehicle as the suspects fled the scene. They had no information about the shooter and were asking the public for assistance in locating them.

Gabriel Ramirez Gets His Day In Court
According to the Nacogdoches Police Department, Gabriel Ramirez, now 20, has pleaded guilty to the charges stemming from the shooting of an NPD officer. He was sentenced to fifty years in prison.
The Nac PD thanked the Nacogdoches DA for organizing the trial and was pleased with the results. This sentence serves as a reminder and deterrent to other criminals who fire weapons at officers in the line of duty.
