Washington, D.C. – Several ready-to-eat meals sold at Walmart and Kroger are being recalled after reports of listeria poisoning that have resulted in multiple deaths and over a dozen illnesses across 13 states.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), these meals may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious foodborne illness known as listeriosis.
Products Affected by the Recall
The recall includes several chicken fettuccine alfredo products made by FreshRealm, based in San Clemente, Calif., Montezuma, Ga., and Indianapolis, Ind.. These products were shipped to Kroger and Walmart locations across the U.S. The following items are included in the recall:
Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine (32.8 oz. tray): Contains “tender pasta with creamy alfredo sauce, white meat chicken, and shaved parmesan cheese.”
Expiration Date: 6/27/25 or prior
Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine (12.3 oz. tray): Contains “tender pasta with creamy alfredo sauce, white meat chicken, broccoli, and shaved parmesan cheese.”
Expiration Date: 06/26/25 or prior
Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (12.5 oz. tray): Contains “pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and parmesan cheese.”
Expiration Date: 6/19/25 or prior

Illnesses and Deaths Linked to the Recall
As of June 18, 2025, the FDA and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are investigating a listeria outbreak tied to these ready-to-eat meals. The outbreak has sickened 17 people in 13 states. Of those 17, 16 were hospitalized, and there have been three deaths. Tragically, the outbreak also led to the loss of an unborn child.

Listeria Poisoning Symptoms
Listeria poisoning is caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes and can be especially dangerous for older adults, pregnant women, and those with weak immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis include:
Fever
Muscle aches
Headache
Stiff neck
Confusion
Loss of balance
Convulsions
Diarrhea
Other gastrointestinal symptoms
Miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, and/or life-threatening infections in newborn infants
Anyone who is at higher risk and experiences flu-like symptoms within two months after consuming contaminated food should seek medical care immediately.
What to Do if You Have the Recalled Products
If you have purchased any of the recalled meals, you should throw them away, including any that were frozen. For those who may be concerned about illness from consuming the product, the USDA advises contacting a healthcare provider for guidance.
