Season 2 of Landman has been confirmed, and the cast may receive a significant upgrade. Sam Elliott is expected to join Billy Bob Thornton when the show returns.
The decision appears plausible for at least two reasons. First, one of the show’s biggest stars died at the end of Season 1, leaving room for another. Second, Elliott enjoyed his time working with Taylor Sheridan on the Yellowstone prequel 1883.
- Season 1 of Landman finished on Jan. 12 on Paramount+. Season 2 was confirmed on March 12.
- Billy Bob Thornton stars as Tommy Norris, who manages projects for a Texas oil company.
- The show zooms in on the Midland, Texas, oil industry.
Landman Season 2 Cast:
Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris in Landman, and Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph make up his nuclear family. James Jordan, Kayla Wallace, Paulina Chavez, and Colm Feore all play important roles.
Demi Moore and Jon Hamm also did. Monty Miller, played by Hamm, owns the oil company where Thornton works, but he dies in the final minutes of Season 1 due to a series of heart failures.
While Moore’s role on the show is expected to grow, Hamm’s absence would provide an opportunity for someone like Elliott to join.
The 80-year-old’s impressive filmography includes Tombstone, A Star Is Born, and Roadhouse. In 1883, he played Shea Brennan, an emotionally tortured man hired to assist James Dutton (Tim McGraw) in getting to Oregon.
Is Sam Elliott Joining Landman?
According to Puck, Landman is adding Sam Elliott for Season 2. The outlet and writer Matthew Belloni have previously demonstrated a high level of expertise in the Yellowstone franchise, with extensive original reporting. However, Belloni cautions that he has been informed that Elliott will be joining.
His source was not revealed, and Paramount+ did not confirm anything. Nobody knows when Season 2 will film or be released.
Andy Garcia made a cameo appearance as a cartel leader in Landman’s season one finale. It is unclear whether he will return for Season 2, but the cartel’s threat persisted as the credits rolled. Still, a shift in storyline is possible, which would mean less Garcia moving forward.
Elliott received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in 1883, and he praised the cast, crew, and writer Taylor Sheridan at every opportunity. Speaking with Taste of Country, he admitted that the weight of his performance lingered after filming.
“When you do anything that’s an emotional scene, you carry it for a while,” he informs me. “I recall the final scene in A Star Is Born, where I sat on the couch with Stephanie (Lady Gaga). That devastated me for a few days because I felt what I was feeling at the time, and I loved her and Bradley (Cooper) so much that it was all very dear to me.”
