Retirees Born 11–31 Won’t Receive First April Social Security Payment

Retirees Born 11–31 Won't Receive First April Social Security Payment

As April 2025 begins, millions of American retirees are getting ready to receive their monthly Social Security payments. But not everyone will get their check in the first week of the month. The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a staggered schedule based on your birth date and when you started receiving benefits.

Knowing when your money will come is important, especially for those who rely on Social Security as their main source of income.

Who Will Get Paid First in April?

The first Social Security payment of April goes to retirees who:

  • Were born between the 1st and 10th of any month
  • Started receiving benefits after May 1997

These individuals will receive their April payment on Wednesday, April 9.

Full April 2025 Social Security Payment Schedule

Here is the complete payment schedule for April 2025:

  • April 3: For people who began receiving benefits before May 1997, no matter when they were born
  • April 9: Born between the 1st and 10th of any month (after May 1997)
  • April 16: Born between the 11th and 20th
  • April 23: Born between the 21st and 31st

If your birthday falls after the 10th, your April payment will arrive in mid or late April, depending on your date of birth.

Last March Payment Was Sent on March 26

People who were born between the 21st and 31st received their March payment on Wednesday, March 26. They will also be the last to get their April check, which will be sent on April 23.

Use Direct Deposit to Avoid Delays

To avoid delays in receiving your benefits, it’s best to sign up for Direct Deposit. With this option, the money is deposited straight into your bank account. It is faster, safer, and more reliable than receiving a paper check.

Those who still receive paper checks may have to wait up to three extra business days, depending on how fast the mail arrives in their area.

Why This Schedule Matters

With the rising cost of living and inflation, many retirees plan their monthly budget around their Social Security check. Knowing your exact payment date helps you stay in control of your finances and avoid late payments on bills or essentials.
