WRESTLEMANIA WEEKEND — Just one night before his highly anticipated match against El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41, Rey Mysterio’s in-ring future is suddenly in question.
The WWE Hall of Famer was injured Friday night on SmackDown during a six-man tag team match that saw him team with Rey Fenix and Dragon Lee against the faction American Made.
At some point during the contest, Mysterio appeared to suffer a left leg injury, forcing him out of the match and leaving his teammates to finish the bout without him.
Mysterio Assisted Off After Match
Following the match, USA Today captured video of Mysterio being helped by WWE medical staff as he made his way up the entrance ramp. The footage clearly shows Mysterio favoring his left leg, struggling to put weight on it, and needing assistance to return backstage.
Despite the injury, Fenix and Dragon Lee managed to secure the win, but the post-match concern was entirely focused on the status of Mysterio, one of the most beloved and decorated superstars in WWE history.
WrestleMania Match in Jeopardy?
Mysterio is scheduled to face El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41 on Saturday night, a match fans have been buzzing about—especially with heavy speculation that the masked rival is actually Chad Gable, competing under the new persona.
Now, that highly anticipated bout is in doubt.
As of now, no official statement has been released from WWE regarding the severity of Mysterio’s injury or whether he will still compete at WrestleMania. Given the timing, an update is expected soon, especially if a last-minute change to the match card is necessary.
What Happens If Rey Can’t Compete?
If Mysterio is ruled out, WWE may either postpone the match, offer a surprise replacement, or shift storyline focus to another member of his team—possibly Dragon Lee or Rey Fenix—to confront El Grande Americano in his place.
WrestleMania is known for delivering shocking turns and last-minute changes, so anything remains possible.
For now, Mysterio’s fans and the wrestling world are holding their breath, hoping the injury is minor and that the legendary high-flyer can still perform on the grandest stage of them all.
