Scam Alert: Fake Lufkin Police Calls

Scam Alert Fake Lufkin Police Calls

Do not be fooled by your phone’s caller ID; you never know who is on the other end of the line. Criminals are becoming more sophisticated, and they can manipulate your phone to say anything they believe will entice you to hand over your cash.

According to the Lufkin Crime Stoppers Facebook page, a resident was the victim of a scam. Criminals are calling and impersonating Lufkin Police Department officers. They are making the outrageous claim that cartels are targeting them and gaining access to their bank accounts.

The calls had the correct number and caller ID information, but the information they requested was the only reason you would have been tipped off. You can keep your family and yourself safe from this scam.

Law Enforcement Officers Will Never Call You Demanding Money Over The Phone

The most important takeaway from all the cybersecurity training is to slow down. If someone calls you with an urgent request for action, hang up and contact the agency they claim to represent.

Even if you live in a “don’t call the police ever for any reason” household, call them to find out the truth before handing over any of your hard-earned money.

The same is true for links in text messages; never click on anything you didn’t ask for. If you owe someone money for anything in life, don’t be concerned; you’ll know.
