Severe weather over the Easter weekend caused destruction across Oklahoma and Texas, leaving two people dead—a woman and a 12-year-old boy—and causing widespread damage, flooding, power cuts, and travel delays.
The storms brought heavy rain, flooding, lightning, hail, and even tornadoes, turning the weekend into a weather disaster for thousands of families.
Flash Floods in Oklahoma: Two Dead in Moore
In Moore, Oklahoma, just outside Oklahoma City, police confirmed that two vehicles got stuck in floodwaters around 9 p.m. Saturday. One of them was swept under a bridge. Emergency crews managed to rescue everyone except two victims—a woman and a 12-year-old boy—who sadly died in the incident.
Moore police described the situation as a “historical weather event” with dozens of high-water incidents reported across the city. In a statement, they thanked nearby agencies for their help and shared condolences for the victims’ families.
Tornadoes Reported Across Both States
The National Weather Service (NWS) recorded 16 tornado reports by early Sunday morning across Oklahoma and Texas. These twisters caused major damage to trees, homes, and buildings, especially in towns like Ada, Oklahoma.
Interestingly, this is the second tornado to hit Ada in just over a month. In March, an EF-1 tornado cut through the town, displacing at least 24 families.
Storm Chasers Capture Tornadoes in Texas
In Texas, storm chasers captured video footage of tornadoes in towns like Tolar and Sterling City. The NWS also confirmed early tornado sightings near Bowie and Hico.
In Montague County, the Sheriff’s Office had to rescue several people trapped in high water on Highway US 81, north of Stoneburg. They posted a warning on Facebook, asking people to avoid the flooded area.
Power Outages and Flight Delays
The extreme weather also caused over 21,000 power outages in Texas and Oklahoma by Sunday morning, according to PowerOutage.us.
Air travel was also affected. Data from Flightaware.com showed that more than 300 flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport were delayed due to the storms.
