SHREVEPORT, LA – A strange and unexpected situation unfolded on Friday morning in Shreveport, Louisiana, when a man allegedly tried to carjack two vehicles in broad daylight. The suspect, now identified as 46-year-old Robert Gilleard, is in custody and facing multiple charges.
Carjacking Attempt Reported on Fairfield Avenue
Just after 9:00 a.m., officers from the Shreveport Police Department responded to a report of a carjacking on the 1800 block of Fairfield Avenue. What began as a typical crime report quickly took a bizarre turn.
Police say Gilleard first tried to enter one car but failed. Moments later, he ran toward another vehicle and managed to jump inside. However, the driver of that car reacted quickly, confronting Gilleard and jumping out before anything worse could happen.
Quick Police Response Leads to Arrest
Responding officers arrived at the scene quickly and were able to arrest Gilleard on the spot. During the arrest, Gilleard sustained some injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being processed.
He is now facing charges of:
- Two counts of carjacking
- One count of theft
