Shreveport Police Crack Down on Illegal Firearms in Major Citywide Operation

Shreveport, Louisiana – The Shreveport Police Department (SPD) is taking strong action to remove illegal guns from city streets. On Thursday, May 22, 2025, SPD made several arrests as part of a citywide crackdown targeting people who are not legally allowed to own or carry firearms.

This operation shows the department’s serious commitment to reducing gun violence and keeping neighborhoods safe.

Early Morning Arrest in Shreveport

The day began with SPD’s Street Level Interdiction Unit, also known as the “Jump Out Boys,” executing a search warrant at a local residence. During the search, Damien Wright was found with both illegal drugs and a firearm.

He was arrested on multiple charges, including felony possession of a firearm — a charge given to people banned from owning weapons due to past criminal convictions.

Traffic Stop Results in Another Felon Arrested

Later that same day, SPD’s Directed Patrol Unit conducted a routine traffic stop that quickly turned serious. Dale Robertson, the driver, was found to have a handgun in his possession.

Further checks showed that Robertson is a convicted felon, meaning it is illegal for him to own or carry any gun. Officers arrested him and filed appropriate charges for illegal gun possession.

Violent Crimes Unit Seizes Three Firearms

In a separate action, SPD’s Violent Crimes Abatement Team carried out another search warrant which led to the arrest of SirDarren Law, another convicted felon.

Law was found with three firearms, including:

  • A stolen semi-automatic pistol
  • A second semi-automatic pistol
  • A shotgun

Law now faces charges for felony possession of firearms and other related offenses.

Police Say They Are Committed to Public Safety

Following the arrests, SPD released a public statement:

“These arrests underscore the Shreveport Police Department’s ongoing commitment to reducing gun violence by targeting those who illegally possess firearms.”

SPD Chief Wayne Smith added:

“Our officers remain focused on removing illegal weapons from our community. We will continue to take proactive steps to keep our neighborhoods safe.”
