Social Security Checks Do Not Guarantee New Benefits: Check All Requirements

Social Security Checks Do Not Guarantee New Benefits Check All Requirements

The United States Social Security Administration is preparing to send out another round of retirement payments to eligible citizens. If you’re in the right group, you may see the money in your bank account within hours. If not, don’t worry — your payment will arrive later this month according to the official April 2025 schedule.

Knowing your payment date can help you plan your monthly budget better, especially if Social Security is your main source of income.

Who Will Receive the Next Social Security Payment?

This upcoming payment is for a specific group of Social Security beneficiaries. To qualify for the next check, you must meet one key requirement:

You must have started receiving Social Security before May 1997.

This group is known as Group 1 retirees. It does not matter whether your retirement is due to old age, disability, or any other reason — as long as your benefit was approved before May 1997, you will receive your payment on April 3, 2025.

If you are not in Group 1, you will receive your payment on one of the later dates in April, depending on your birthday and the date you started receiving benefits.

Social Security Payment Schedule for April 2025

To make things easier, here’s the full payment calendar for April 2025:

Payment Date Payment Type & Eligibility
April 1 SSI (Supplemental Security Income) for low-income recipients
April 3 Group 1 retirees – Benefits started before May 1997
April 9 Group 2 – Benefits started after May 1997 + birthday between 1st–10th
April 16 Group 3 – Benefits started after May 1997 + birthday between 11th–20th
April 23 Group 4 – Benefits started after May 1997 + birthday between 21st–31st

If you don’t receive your check in April, your next Social Security payment will be in May 2025.

Don’t Forget About Direct Deposit

If you want your payment to arrive on the same day it’s sent, make sure you’ve activated Direct Deposit with the Social Security Administration. Without Direct Deposit, your payment will still arrive — but you may have to wait a few extra days for the paper check to come by mail.
