Season 2, Episode 3 of 1923, titled “Wrap Thee in Terror,” premiered on Sunday, March 9, delivering intense drama, deadly consequences, and life-threatening situations for several main characters. From Alexandra’s perilous journey to America to Spencer’s dangerous bootlegging business and Jacob Dutton’s ongoing struggle for survival, the latest episode was packed with suspense and heartbreak.
Alexandra’s Journey to America Turns Dangerous
Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) finally arrives in New York after a grueling overseas journey, but her troubles are far from over. She faces a harsh and humiliating process at Ellis Island, where her pregnancy nearly gets her denied entry. After convincing an immigration officer that she is worthy of a new life in America, she finally makes it through.
However, her struggles continue as she faces hostility from fellow immigrants and quickly realizes that America isn’t the dreamland she imagined. To make things worse, as the episode ends, a mysterious man watches her at the train station, hinting at even more danger before her journey to Montana has even begun.
Spencer Dutton’s Risky Business Leads to Tragedy
Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) is still trying to make his way to Montana. He and Luca (Andy Dispensa) attempt to deliver bootleg whiskey to Fort Worth, a dangerous job that Spencer took to fund his passage home.
However, when they run into trouble at a roadblock, Spencer refuses to risk his life for illegal liquor and decides to walk away. Luca, however, insists on continuing—and just as Spencer warned, he is shot and killed while trying to fight his way through.
With Luca dead and his bootlegging plan in ruins, Spencer’s journey home remains uncertain.
Jacob Dutton and His Crew Battle the Blizzard
Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford), Jack (Darren Mann), Zane (Brian Geraghty), and his family are still trapped in the wilderness as the blizzard rages on. With no firewood left, Zane suggests burning the wagon for warmth, believing that Jacob is still strong enough to ride a horse home despite his injuries.
Thankfully, they all make it home alive, but their troubles are far from over.
Cara Dutton Kills the Wolf—But Faces New Struggles
At the end of Episode 2, a wolf had entered the house, leaving fans worried about Cara (Helen Mirren). Episode 3 reveals that she managed to kill the wolf, but she is still dealing with the harsh realities of survival.
Elizabeth Struggles With Rabies Treatment & Wants to Leave
Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph) is still enduring painful rabies shots and resists further treatment. When she tries to back out, Cara slaps her, reminding her that she’s lucky to be alive compared to the nurse who was killed by the wolf.
Despite this, Elizabeth is determined to leave Montana once the weather clears. She begins packing to return home, and when Jack pleads with her to stay, she tells him that if he truly loves her, he must leave with her for Boston.
Teonna Rainwater’s Fate Takes a Turn
Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) does not appear in Episode 3, but her father, Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), offers to help local ranchers round up stray cattle in exchange for camping rights.
Meanwhile, Father Renaud (Sebastian Roche) and Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) are getting closer to tracking down Teonna, her father, and Pete (Jeremy Guana). They realize that the group is likely working as cowboys, and Teonna’s wanted poster is now in circulation—offering a $250 reward for her capture.
However, hope isn’t lost. Marshal Fossett (Jennifer Carpenter) is horrified to learn that Renaud and Kent have been killing Native Americans in their hunt for Teonna. She vows to bring them to justice, which may give Teonna a much-needed ally.
Zane Faces a Brutal Medical Procedure
After surviving the blizzard, Zane is diagnosed with a brain injury. The doctor warns that the only way to relieve the pressure is to drill into his skull—and since they can’t reach a hospital, the procedure must be done without anesthesia.
