Many people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) in the U.S. were recently worried due to rumors spreading online. Some believed that there were delays or missing payments during the first week of May 2025. But the Social Security Administration (SSA) has now cleared the confusion: there are no problems or delays—just the usual payment schedule.
Why There Were No SSDI Payments in Early May 2025
Several SSDI beneficiaries noticed they didn’t receive any money during the week of May 5 to May 11, and began sharing their concerns online. However, this gap was expected. According to the SSA, SSDI payments are made based on your date of birth, and for May 2025, the payments are scheduled for:
- May 14 for those born between the 1st and 10th
- May 21 for those born between the 11th and 20th
- May 28 for those born between the 21st and 31st
So, there were never supposed to be payments in the first full week of May. The confusion mostly came from people who weren’t aware of this regular timing.
What About Payments Made on May 2?
A small group of SSDI recipients did receive their payments early, on May 2, 2025. These were special cases:
- People who started receiving SSDI before 1997
- People who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Those living outside the U.S.
Normally, these groups get paid on the 3rd of each month, but since May 3rd was a Saturday, the payment was moved to the closest working day, which was Friday, May 2.
This is a regular adjustment that happens often and does not signal a system error or special issue.

Payment System Working Fine, Says SSA
As of May 8, 2025, the SSA has confirmed that there have been no technical problems or system delays in the distribution of SSDI payments. The absence of payments during the week is simply because no group was scheduled to receive money at that time.
People worried online because they didn’t understand the SSA’s set payment dates. The SSA has reminded users to check the payment calendar in advance.
How Much Will You Get in SSDI Payments?
SSDI payment amounts vary depending on your income history. In 2025, the maximum monthly SSDI benefit is $4,018, but this is only for those who had high earnings throughout their careers.
Most people receive less. The average SSDI payment in 2025 is around $1,580 per month.
The amount you get depends on your highest 35 years of income. The SSA uses this history to calculate your benefits.
Check Payment Dates and Amounts Online
To avoid confusion or missed payments, the SSA encourages all users to create an account on their official site: ssa.gov/myaccount. From there, you can:
- See upcoming payment dates
- Check your payment history
- Get alerts if your bank information has changed
This is the best way to stay informed and avoid rumors.
