Steve Hilton, a ceramics professor at Midwestern State University, has been named the new president of the National Council of Education for the Ceramic Arts. The organization, which has 20,000 members, seeks to develop the next generation of ceramic artists.
Hilton stated that it has long been his dream for everyone to enjoy the freedom of working with clay.
“I’d like everyone to be able to touch clay.” You know, when you see a child touch clay for the first time, you can see the magic and what it can do. “I’ve had people take my ceramic classes and tell me that it not only changed but saved their lives because of the material,” Hilton explained.
The board selected Hilton for the position because of his years of dedication and service to the organization as a board member.
“Next year in Detroit, NCECA will celebrate its 60th anniversary, and I’ve served on the board for 12 of those years. So when they asked me to be president, they had that in mind,” Hilton explained.
Hilton is a well-known ceramics artist who has had work shown in over 200 exhibitions around the world.
“I’m very proud to have participated in over several hundred exhibitions around the world. Even so, I’m probably more proud of what we’ve accomplished here in Wichita Falls,” Hilton said.
Hilton will be the organization’s president from 2025 to 2029, while continuing to work as a professor at MSU.
