The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) has successfully apprehended Johnathan B. Melton, the man wanted in connection to a violent assault at a Shreveport gas station.
The incident, which occurred in late May 2025, was captured on security footage and went viral, sparking widespread public interest and helping officers track down the suspect.
The Assault and the Viral Video
On Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, a Hispanic man was violently attacked by a white man at a convenience store on Hollywood Ave in Shreveport. The CPSO quickly released surveillance footage of the assault, along with a zoomed-in image of the attacker’s face, seeking help from the community in identifying the suspect.
The victim, who has remained anonymous, suffered facial trauma and was transported to LSU Health for medical treatment. The video, which was shared on the CPSO’s Facebook page, quickly went viral, garnering over 200,000 views.
As the footage spread, many members of the Shreveport community voiced their anger and frustration online, with some even suggesting that Johnathan Melton might be the attacker.
Arrest and Public Reaction
On Friday night, June 6th, 2025, officers located Johnathan B. Melton at a store on Greenwood Road in Shreveport. Melton was taken into custody without resistance. Following his arrest, he was booked at the Caddo Correctional Center on charges of second-degree battery and is currently being held without bond.
