Texas Man Escapes for Hours After Jumping Out of a Moving Patrol Unit!

Just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, a Texas patrol deputy noticed a car blocking the road in Dickinson. As the deputy approached, a man jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

Around the same time, Dickinson Police issued a burglary alert identifying a suspect who matched the man’s description. Deputies quickly established a perimeter and apprehended 35-year-old Sylvester Thompson, charging him with evading arrest.

However, the evasion did not end there.

Thompson was able to move his handcuffs from the back to the front of his body during his transport to Galveston County Jail. He then rolled down the patrol window and escaped, all while the vehicle was still moving!

Struggle Leaves Deputy Injured

Deputies pursued Thompson again, resulting in a struggle on IH-45. Sheriff Fullen claims Thompson assaulted a deputy and attempted to take his weapon before fleeing on foot. The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Hours-Long Manhunt Ends in Arrest

It took several hours of searching to locate Thompson (still handcuffed) inside a moving vehicle in Santa Fe, Texas.

Two Others Charged for Helping Thompson

The vehicle’s driver, Captain Ferrel Lawson, 32, and another passenger, Ebonnie Persha Lathon, 33, have been charged with hindering apprehension, a third-degree felony. Their bonds are valued at $100,000 each.
