A Texas man is now in jail after his actions caused a 12-year-old girl to become pregnant. How did this occur in Texas? Here are the specifics of the case.
When Did The Crime Against The Child Begin?
According to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Joshua Weibye met the unnamed victim at the age of five. Weibye was then dating the child’s mother. Weibye began sexually assaulting the child while dating the mother.
In the year 2020, the child, now older, attempted to inform her mother about the situation with Weibye. The mother did not listen to the child and instead allowed Weibye to be near him without restriction. Things, however, changed dramatically in 2021.
What Happened In 2021 Between The Child And Weibye?
According to police, Weibye took the unnamed victim to an abortion clinic after discovering she was now 12 years old and pregnant with his child.
The clinic in Austin declined to perform abortions due to a lack of guardianship or parental involvement. Furthermore, because of the child’s age, clinic workers notified police of the situation.
Police investigations revealed that Weibye attempted to persuade the child to tell authorities a false story about becoming pregnant from a 12-year-old boy. However, police quickly deduced the false story, as revealed in a release.
“The victim provided inconsistent information and did not have answers to many basic questions. (Officers) also discovered that the victim’s mother had no idea she was pregnant or that (Weibye) had taken her to get an abortion, which raised their suspicions.”
Following the incident, the mother took her children to Mexico, leaving Child Protective Services unable to locate them. However, after it was discovered that Weibye had returned the unnamed child to Texas, he was arrested.
According to police reports, the child was no longer pregnant after the mother allegedly gave her pills, causing her to lose the baby.
Weibye was found guilty of two counts: indecency with a child and sexual assault on a child he was not allowed to marry. His total sentence was 100 years in prison. If additional information is reported, we will post it here.
