A tragic case from Texas has taken a serious turn as a man, originally charged with assault, now faces murder charges after his elderly father died from the injuries he sustained during the attack. The shocking incident took place in San Carlos, Texas, and has left the local community stunned.
What Happened in San Carlos, Texas?
On the night of April 15, just after 10 p.m., police officers were called to a home in San Carlos to conduct a welfare check on an elderly man.
When they arrived, they found 86-year-old Francisco Coronado Sr. in his backyard, injured and in a disoriented state. He was bleeding from his head, nose, and mouth, showing signs of a violent attack.
Emergency medical services (EMS) were quickly called, and the elderly man was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Who Was Responsible for the Attack?
After speaking with family members at the scene, police learned that the person responsible was Francisco Coronado Jr., 42, the son of the victim. Coronado Jr. had fled the scene before officers arrived but was later found and arrested on April 16.
During questioning, he confessed to the brutal assault on his father. Hospital examinations revealed serious injuries including head trauma, a broken nose, broken jaw, and fractured cheekbone.
Coronado Jr. was charged with injury to an elderly person with intent to cause serious bodily injury and was held in Hidalgo County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
Charges Upgraded to Murder
The situation turned even more tragic on April 23, when Francisco Coronado Sr. was moved to hospice care due to his worsening condition. Sadly, he died soon after. An autopsy confirmed that his death was caused by blunt force trauma, directly linked to the assault by his son.
As a result, authorities upgraded Coronado Jr.’s charge from assault to murder. His bond was increased to $1,000,000.
