In a deeply troubling and emotional case, Weston Cage, son of actor Nicolas Cage and actress Christina Fulton, was arrested in April 2024 for violently assaulting his mother in what she described as a near-fatal incident. The case drew widespread attention not just for its disturbing details, but also for how the justice system chose to handle it—favoring mental health treatment over incarceration.
The Alleged Assault: A Mother’s Harrowing Account
During court proceedings, Christina Fulton, who dated Nicolas Cage from 1988 to 1991, gave a chilling testimony describing how her son “snapped” after allegedly setting fire to his own apartment. Fulton rushed to support Weston, but instead, she was violently attacked.
According to her statement, Weston dragged her by the hair into an elevator, then suffocated and assaulted her, nearly to the point of death.
“He shoved his thumb in my eye socket. The pain was excruciating. My vision went black. I was losing consciousness,” Fulton testified.
The assault reportedly ended only when one of Weston’s friends intervened, risking his own safety to save Fulton. Weston was arrested shortly after the incident.
The Court’s Decision: Treatment Over Prison
In June 2024, Los Angeles Judge Enrique Monguia ruled that Weston Cage would not serve prison time, citing his diagnosed mental health disorder as a key factor in the violent episode. Instead, he was ordered to complete a two-year mental health diversion program.
“Mr. Cage does suffer from an eligible mental health disorder. I’m satisfied it was a significant factor in the commission of the charged offenses,” said Judge Monguia. “It’s obvious he was suffering a breakdown at the time.”
Legal and Emotional Fallout
While Weston avoids jail time, the emotional damage remains. According to TMZ, Fulton expressed heartbreak after the ruling—not just from the trauma she endured, but also from the fact that her son has yet to apologize.
“I am heartbroken. He still hasn’t apologized. He hasn’t shown any remorse,” she told reporters.
Despite the assault, Fulton supported Weston’s mental health treatment in court, stating that he needs help, not punishment. However, she also reminded Nicolas Cage to “take care of my son, our son,” urging the actor to play a more active role in Weston’s life and recovery.
Weston’s Response: A Cryptic Instagram Post
Instead of offering a public apology, Weston took to Instagram with a long and cryptic post, where he described himself as “a man of honor” and claimed he would no longer tolerate “attacks” on his image. He went on to state that he would be remembered for “great acts to elevate and enrich humanity.”
The post only fueled public criticism, as many questioned why he focused on defending his image rather than addressing the violent attack or apologizing to his mother.
Where Things Stand Now
According to Weston’s lawyer, Michael A. Goldstein, Weston is reportedly in “a good head space” and is “about to get married.” While Goldstein claims his client is making positive progress, that progress appears to be incomplete in the eyes of the public—and his mother.
Though legal proceedings have temporarily ended with a focus on rehabilitation, the situation continues to unfold on a more personal level, leaving emotional wounds open between mother and son.
