The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 5 a.m. for parts of the Brazos Valley, Southeast Texas, and the Pineywoods. If you live in these areas, stay alert—damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes are possible overnight.
Counties Included in the Severe Thunderstorm Watch
30 Texas counties are currently under this watch. This includes areas across Central and Southeast Texas.
The counties are:
Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Calhoun, Chambers, Colorado, Dewitt, Fayette, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Gonzales, Grimes, Harris, Houston, Jackson, Karnes, Lavaca, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Victoria, Walker, Waller, and Washington.
Major cities in the watch zone:
Houston, Galveston, Conroe, Livingston, Bryan/College Station
What About Lufkin and Nacogdoches?
Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties are NOT included in this current watch. However, severe weather is still likely later tonight, and a separate thunderstorm watch may be issued for Deep East Texas soon.
Lufkin and Nacogdoches residents should stay prepared for strong to severe storms, even if not officially in the watch area yet.
Main Threats Tonight
Forecasters warn that this storm system could bring:
- Damaging wind gusts, possibly reaching up to 80 mph
- Hail, including large to very large hailstones
- Isolated tornadoes, especially from fast-moving or rotating cells
- Heavy rainfall and possible localized flooding, particularly in Southeast Texas
Flooding has already been reported in Central Texas as this storm moved eastward earlier in the evening.
