In a heartbreaking case from New Hampshire, 27-year-old M. Mohammad was sentenced to 45 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of his 7-year-old son, Jaevion R. Mohammad also received an additional sentence for attempting to cover up the abuse that led to his son’s death.
Tragic Incident and Discovery of Abuse
On January 17, 2023, police responded to a distress call at Mohammad’s residence. First responders found Jaevion unconscious, not breathing, and suffering from severe burns across his face and body. The child also had a knocked-out tooth and signs of blunt force trauma to his head.
Jaevion’s mother stated, “This man was trying to kill my child,” highlighting the severity of the abuse.
False Account and Evidence Tampering
Initially, Mohammad claimed he was in the shower and did not know how his son was injured. He tried to blame the injuries on an accidental spill. However, investigators found no evidence of recent shower use and quickly uncovered inconsistencies in his story.
Authorities discovered that Mohammad had deliberately inflicted injuries by using hot water and physical violence as punishment. He delayed seeking medical help, which worsened Jaevion’s condition and led to his death.
Mohammad also admitted to staging the scene to make it look like the injuries were caused by a simple accident, resulting in a separate charge for falsifying evidence.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Mohammad pled guilty on April 1, 2025, and was sentenced soon after. In addition to the 45 years to life for murder, he received a two to four-year sentence for falsifying evidence, which was suspended for ten years on the condition he commits no new crimes.
Official Response and Hope for Justice
Attorney General J. Formella described the case as “heartbreaking” and said the sentence reflects the severity of Mohammad’s actions. “We are deeply grateful to the trial team, investigators, and police for their hard work and dedication in securing justice for Jaevion,” Formella said. “While no sentence can undo this tragedy, we hope it offers some measure of accountability and closure.”
