Topo Chico Mineral Water is Being Recalled in Texas

A popular mineral water brand, Topo Chico, is currently facing a recall in five states, including Texas, due to concerns over a possible bacterial contamination.

This week, Coca-Cola issued a voluntary recall of Topo Chico bottles sold at specific retail locations, raising alarms about a potential health risk. If you recently purchased Topo Chico, it’s important to check whether your bottles are part of the recall.

What’s the Issue with Topo Chico?

Coca-Cola, the parent company of Topo Chico, announced the recall after discovering the presence of a harmful bacteria known as Pseudomonas. This bacteria is commonly found in the environment, especially in soil and water.

However, when it grows in large amounts, it can pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals with weakened immune systems.

Pseudomonas can cause infections in various parts of the body, including the blood, lungs (pneumonia), and urinary tract. Although the bacteria poses a “very low” health risk to the general public, individuals with compromised immune systems should be cautious. At this time, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.

Which Bottles of Topo Chico Are Affected?

The affected bottles of Topo Chico were sold in 18-packs at retail locations across five states, including Texas. The majority of the affected bottles were sold at Costco stores. The bottles involved in the recall carry a specific lot code: #13A2541. You can find this lot code printed on the necks of individual bottles and on both sides of the packaging case.

These bottles were sold between May 20 and May 29, 2025. If you purchased Topo Chico from Costco during this period, it’s important to check whether your product is included in the recall.

How to Handle the Recall

If you purchased the affected bottles of Topo Chico, Coca-Cola recommends returning the product to Costco for a full refund. Costco has already removed the recalled bottles from their shelves, so if you haven’t yet checked your purchase, it’s a good idea to do so as soon as possible.
