A tragic weekend in Central Texas saw two young girls lose their lives while boating with their family at Cedar Creek Lake, located southeast of Dallas, Texas. This incident, which occurred on June 22, marks the second drowning tragedy that day at the lake due to strong winds and dangerously choppy water conditions.
Cedar Creek Lake Tragedy
Late in the evening of June 22, a search team was dispatched to Cedar Creek Lake in response to a boating accident where two young girls, aged three and five, became trapped under a capsized vessel. Despite wearing life jackets, the boat sank too quickly for help to arrive in time, and the two girls tragically drowned.
Search efforts were complicated by strong winds and rough waters, making the task of locating the victims especially difficult, and it was made worse by the fact that the accident occurred at night with low visibility.
Though the accident is still under investigation, witnesses reported that several people were on the boat before it capsized. It remains unclear where the parents of the two girls were at the time of the incident or if they were unharmed.
Separate Tragedy, Same Day
In a separate but equally tragic incident on the same day, a 43-year-old man drowned while enjoying time on the lake with his family. After a floatation device began drifting away, he attempted to retrieve it. Unfortunately, the rough water pulled him under, and he was unable to resurface.
This brings the total number of fatalities at Cedar Creek Lake in 2024 to six, with three of those deaths occurring this year alone.
