Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas are set to experience warmer and drier conditions this weekend, with isolated thunderstorms making a return by the afternoon. While the triple-digit heat won’t arrive just yet, the eastern plains will see increased temperatures and storm chances over the weekend.
Saturday Weather: Warm with Isolated Thunderstorms
The National Weather Service in Pueblo forecasts that Saturday, June 28 will bring dry and warm conditions to southern and central Colorado. Colorado Springs will see a high of 89°F, while Pueblo will reach 87°F.
As the day progresses, cloud cover will increase, with a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms forming, particularly over the higher terrains, including the Palmer Divide and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Expect gusty winds up to 45 mph in some isolated thunderstorm cells, particularly in areas like Raton Mesa and Fremont County. These storms could bring lightning, brief downpours, and small hail. Burn scar regions, like the Decker Fire zone near Chaffee County, should be especially cautious for sudden runoff risks through Sunday and beyond.
Travel Precautions
Travelers on I-25 and Highway 50 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads if storms develop in the afternoon or early evening hours. Drivers should remain alert for sudden changes in weather and plan accordingly.
