The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is now investigating the cause of a fiery crash that happened on Thursday, April 10, along U.S. Highway 287 near the Little Wichita River in Clay County.

Crash Occurred in the Afternoon

The incident took place around 3:00 p.m., leading to an emergency response from local law enforcement and EMS. By 3:30 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook asking drivers to avoid the area, as an Air Evac helicopter was landing near the scene to assist.

What Caused the Crash?

According to DPS Sgt. Gutierrez, the crash happened after a Ford F-150 pickup truck experienced a front left tire blowout. The sudden tire failure likely caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in the crash and the vehicle catching fire.
