If you’re a true crime enthusiast like me, you’ve probably found yourself glued to Oxygen’s “Snapped”, a show that dives into some of the most intriguing and shocking cases involving women and murder. I find myself binge-watching it every now and then, especially when I’m in the mood for something dark and captivating.
One thing I noticed while watching “Snapped” is that several cases from Louisiana have been featured on the show, and a few are even from the Shreveport area.
After doing a bit of research, I found that many other states like Florida, Texas, and California also have a significant number of women whose stories have made it to the screen. Even Georgia and New York have plenty of cases.
Louisiana Murders on ‘Snapped’
Among the most shocking cases on “Snapped,” two are from the Shreveport-Bossier area, one is from Natchitoches, and others come from south Louisiana. These stories are chilling, and each one brings a mix of betrayal, greed, and desperation that ultimately led to murder.
What Happened to These Women?
In many of these cases, the women involved are still behind bars. However, some have served their time and are out. A few have passed away, while one woman made a daring escape from St. Gabriel and fled to Mexico. She was eventually caught after she returned to the United States and tried to start fresh in California.
The case from Natchitoches was particularly shocking for the small town, as it involved a crime of passion that left the community shaken.
The Motive: Money, Abuse, and Desperation
In most of these murders, the women “snapped” after being pushed to their limits, often by financial strain or troubled relationships. Many of the cases revolve around life insurance policies, with the women hoping to cash in on their partner’s death.
In one notable case, a woman murdered her parents in order to gain access to money she needed to pay off a gambling debt.
Some of the women claimed to be victims of domestic abuse, suggesting that the murders were committed out of fear or retaliation against their abusers. Regardless of the reason, the crimes and their aftermath have left lasting marks on families and communities.
A Dark Glimpse into Human Nature
While these stories may seem shocking, they also shed light on the complexities of human emotions, desperation, and choices. Each woman’s story on “Snapped” is unique, yet they all share common threads of emotional turmoil, manipulation, and the devastating consequences that can result from a single moment of rage or panic.
True crime fans will continue to be fascinated by these cases, especially as new ones from around the country continue to be featured on shows like “Snapped.” As we watch these chilling stories unfold, it’s a reminder of how fragile the human mind can be when pushed to its breaking point.
