A recent NBC News report revealed that President Donald Trump frequently leaves White House meetings to take personal phone calls on his personal cell phone. This behavior has raised questions about his focus on political duties and the security of sensitive government information.
Prioritizing Personal Connections Over Political Affairs
According to the report, Trump often pauses official meetings to chat with friends and associates, including UFC legend Dana White and Rupert Murdoch, the former chairman of Fox and News Corp. A senior official mentioned that Trump once said, “Let’s call Rupert. Fox is killing me today.”
In another instance, Trump allegedly called Murdoch to discuss his views on the Israel-Iran conflict and sought feedback on Washington’s involvement.
Trump’s Leadership Style: “He Does What He Wants”
A Republican senator anonymously shared that Trump’s leadership style is unique: “He does what he wants, and they let him do it.” The senator added, “He watches a lot of TV, and he lives on the telephone. He likes to be called.”
The senator reflected on an interaction with Trump, where the president asked, “Why don’t you call me anymore?” The senator’s response was, “Because I don’t have anything to say, and you’re the president and busy.”
Security Concerns Over Trump’s Phone Calls
Trump’s habit of leaving meetings to use his personal cell phone has sparked concerns about security. In March, military officials were present to discuss the F-47, the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet, but the meeting was interrupted by Trump’s phone calls, leading to worries about confidential information being compromised.
Mark Zuckerberg’s Unplanned White House Visit
In a separate incident, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unexpectedly walked into a White House meeting. According to two sources, he was asked to wait outside until Trump could finish his meeting. One military official reportedly worried about the possibility of sensitive information being exposed during the discussion.
White House Official Denies Report of Zuckerberg’s Ejection
After the incident made headlines, a White House official clarified that the situation was “mischaracterized.” The official explained that Zuckerberg was not asked to leave but had “popped in to say hello” at Trump’s request before leaving to wait for his scheduled meeting with the president.
