On Tuesday morning, the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) arrested two individuals following a high-speed chase through the city.
SPD patrol officers attempted to stop a car driven by Cartez Thomas. However, Thomas sped off, leading officers on a chase. Eventually, the car came to a stop, and both Thomas and his passenger, Roshun Richmond, jumped out of the car and ran.
Arrest and Discovery of Illegal Items
SPD officers quickly caught up with both men and arrested them. During a search, officers found that both Thomas and Richmond were in possession of guns and drugs. After checking their identifications, police learned that both men were convicted felons. Thomas had a previous conviction for burglary, while Richmond had multiple convictions from 2024.
Investigators also discovered that the vehicle Thomas was driving had been reported stolen.
Charges Filed Against the Suspects
Thomas is facing the following charges:
- Aggravated flight from an officer
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Resisting an officer
- Possession of marijuana
- Illegal possession of stolen things
- Multiple traffic violations
Richmond is facing charges for:
- Distribution of narcotics
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
- Resisting an officer
SPD’s Statement
The Shreveport Police Department issued a statement saying, “The investigation remains ongoing. The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to removing illegal weapons and drugs from our streets and holding repeat offenders accountable.”
