Two People Arrested After an 8-Month-Old Baby Found Living in Dirty House With a Lot of Animals and Dead Goat

A disturbing case in Honea Path, South Carolina has led to the arrest of two individuals after police found an 8-month-old baby living in shockingly unsanitary conditions alongside more than 40 animals — some alive, others deceased.

Authorities described the scene as “horrific” and “alarming,” with animal waste, filth, and even a decomposing goat carcass discovered inside the home.

Baby Found in Dangerous Conditions

On May 19, Honea Path Police responded to a residence following a tip from the Department of Social Services. The report raised concerns about a baby possibly living in unsafe conditions. When officers arrived, what they found was far worse than expected.

Inside the home were raccoons, dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, and other animals. Officers also found dead animals, including a goat carcass rotting in the bathtub. The house was filled with feces, waste, and filth throughout.

Animal Expert Called to Assist

Due to the overwhelming number of animals, police contacted a veterinarian from a local animal shelter for help. The doctor and her team assisted in removing more than 40 animals from the property.

Authorities said the conditions were extremely unhealthy for both the child and the animals, with no proper care or sanitation in place.

Two People Charged

After investigating, police arrested Kayla Renard and Nicholas Foley. They were charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, ill treatment of animals, and multiple violations of town ordinances.

Officials did not clarify the exact relationship between the suspects and the baby. However, the child has been safely placed in the care of a relative, according to authorities.

Community Shocked by Conditions

The case has stunned the local community. Officers involved in the investigation called it one of the worst situations they’ve seen in terms of both child neglect and animal cruelty.

The animal shelter team, which responded to help with the rescue, has also expressed concern about the emotional and physical damage to both the baby and the animals.
