In a shocking case out of Detroit, a woman and a man are facing serious charges — including torture — after allegedly assaulting a man who uses a wheelchair. Prosecutors say the suspects tried to force-feed the victim bleach and left him with severe head and brain injuries.
Details of the Alleged Assault
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Brittany Walker, 35, and Samuel Payton, 62, attacked a 44-year-old man in a Detroit apartment on January 29.
FOX 2 Detroit reported that an argument between the suspects and the victim escalated into violence. Both Walker and Payton are accused of attempting to pour bleach down the man’s throat during the assault.
After the attack, the victim was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had a cranial bleed and a fracture in his left orbital wall.
Relationship Between Suspects and Victim Unknown
It is still unclear what relationship, if any, Walker and Payton had with the victim. Authorities have not released details about how they knew each other, and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has not responded to further questions about the case.
Arrests and Charges
Walker and Payton were both arrested in February and charged with multiple serious felonies. Court records show that each suspect’s bond was set at $1 million.
Samuel Payton faces two felony charges:
- Torture
- Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder
Brittany Walker faces even more charges, including:
- Torture
- Assault with intent to do great bodily harm
- Assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault)
- First-degree vulnerable adult abuse
- Assault or assault and battery
Both suspects have pleaded not guilty to all charges and are scheduled to appear in court again on May 28.
