Winds gusting up to 84 mph have caused brownouts in numerous locations throughout West Texas and the Panhandle, making for a dangerous day on the roads. Wind damage to buildings and trees has occurred throughout Lubbock and the Panhandle.
Texas Storm Chasers was among the groups out documenting today’s extreme weather event in our area. And some of the footage they have obtained is shocking. Wind gusts exceeding 80 mph have been common from the Panhandle to the South Plains.
The near-brownout conditions caused a pileup on I-27 south of Canyon, forcing the closure of a portion of the interstate.
There was another large pileup south of Hale Center on Friday due to the dust storm.

Along with the strong winds and blowing dust. Multiple wildfires have been reported.
The wind is expected to subside later tonight. KFYO will provide updates on this weather event as news warrants.
