The Pet Circle Regional Animal Shelter in Waco, Texas, is currently dealing with a serious overpopulation issue. According to a report by KXXV, the shelter is at 144% capacity, housing more than 220 dogs—far beyond its limit of 189 dog kennels.
Melissa Sheldon, a representative from the shelter, spoke with KXXV and explained the situation:
“We have seen an influx in animals for the last couple of weeks now, but we’re set up for about 189 dog kennels, and we’re maintaining right now at about 220, so we’re very over capacity.”
With so many dogs in need of homes, many in Waco are wondering how they can help the shelter.
How Can You Help Pet Circle in Waco?
In response to the overcrowding, Pet Circle has made it possible to adopt a dog without any adoption fees. However, if you’re unable to adopt, the shelter also encourages fostering as a great option.
Sheldon shared that fostering is a temporary way to help the shelter:
“If you’re missing your dog, check the shelter, if you’re looking for a new dog, even fostering is free, so if you want to take a dog for a few days, it helps us out greatly, and you may find your future forever friend.”
