Millions of Americans receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) each month from the Social Security Administration (SSA). These payments help people with limited income, disabilities, or elderly individuals meet their daily expenses. But sometimes, the payment date changes, especially when the 1st of the month is a weekend or a federal holiday.
To avoid delays due to bank closures, the SSA reschedules those payments to the last working day before the 1st. This makes it easier for beneficiaries to receive their money without waiting longer.
Why SSI Payment Dates Sometimes Change
If the 1st day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, the SSA sends the payment earlier, usually on the last business day of the previous month. This ensures that your funds are available even when banks are closed.
For example:
- January 1, 2025 (Wednesday – New Year’s Day) → Payment was made on December 31, 2024
- June 1, 2025 (Sunday) → Payment will be made on May 30, 2025
This helps avoid any delay in accessing your benefits.
