If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a sports fan, it’s that people outside of Texas despise our teams. Now that March Madness has arrived, let’s talk about the most hated men’s basketball team.
The thing about college sports is that the hatred doesn’t come solely from outside the state. There is a lot of hatred coming from within, and I am here for it. Nothing fuels the desire to win more than a dislike for the opposition.
That said, when it comes down to it, I usually root for a Texas rival over another team. I know some people who strongly disagree with me, and I understand, but I could never be that way. I’d rather support homegrown athletes, particularly college kids.
When it comes to the most despised men’s college basketball team in the Lone Star State, I’d be willing to bet my paycheck that you can tell who it is, even if you’re a fan of them like me.
That’s because every time the Texas Longhorns play on the road, there’ll be a sea of “horns down” signs in the stands, whether it’s basketball, football, baseball, or softball.
And, for the record, I am not one of those fans who believe teams should be penalized for throwing their “horns down.” If anything, it should motivate our athletes to work even harder to silence the haters.
