The Wichita Falls City Council is set to consider annexing 33 acres of land on Randy Drive, with plans to zone it for light industrial use. The move could open the door for the future construction of two large data centers and a gas power plant.
City Council Meeting Details
The meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, in the Seminar Room at the MPEC, located at 1000 Fifth St. The public is welcome to attend.
City leaders will review the proposal, which includes zoning the land for light industrial development, a step that would allow companies to build two 125,000-square-foot data center warehouses and possibly a natural gas-powered plant on the site.
Where Is the Land?
The land being discussed is an open field east of Burkburnett Road, a few miles north of downtown Wichita Falls. It was previously owned by the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and was transferred to KBD WF LLC on January 30, according to local tax records.
Other Items on the Council Agenda
Along with the land annexation and zoning decision, the Wichita Falls City Council will also address several other community-focused proposals during the meeting, including:
- Spending $591,191 on a vacuum truck to help clean debris from sewer lines and storm drains
- Adopting the “Heart of the Falls” neighborhood revitalization plan to improve older neighborhoods in central Wichita Falls
- Approving $126,700 for new parking gate systems at Wichita Falls Regional Airport
- Adopting a standards of care ordinance for the city’s Summer Day Camp program
- Authorizing the purchase of two new GMC pickup trucks for $100,365
Why This Matters
If approved, the annexation could bring new infrastructure, jobs, and growth to Wichita Falls, particularly in the tech and energy sectors. Data centers are often used to support cloud storage, internet services, and big data processing — all of which are growing industries across Texas.
At the same time, other items on the agenda reflect the city’s focus on public services, infrastructure improvement, and neighborhood development.
