Wichita Falls Employee Honored for Their Work at Sheppard Air Force Base

WICHITA FALLS — One City of Wichita Falls employee recently received the Community Partner of the Year Award, which recognizes those in the community who are active advocates and drive change that benefits Sheppard Air Force Base.

The 82nd Mission Support Group named Karen Montgomery-Gagne Community Partner of the Year. Gagne officially received this award on March 7 and will be given special recognition at the city council meeting on Tuesday, March 18.

Commander Colonel John Hollister of the 82nd Mission Support Group praised Gagne as a “critical component” of the mission’s continued success.

“We wanted to take the time to thank those in the community who support SAFB. Mrs. Montgomery-Gagne has been a constant advocate and change agent to help advance the training missions,” Hollister stated. “Specific examples include taking the lead in drafting the grant package for the DEAAG and advancing language to the 4A/4B boards for economic assistance to both the DEAAG and BASH weed control. Furthermore, she is constantly in contact with various base agencies about everything from utilities to obstructions in the local airspace.”

Gagne is the city’s principal planner, and he has collaborated with SAFB, the Sheppard Military Affairs Committee, and the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce on three grant programs, including the Defense Economic Adjustment Assistant Grant Program.

“I feel very honored I have been given the opportunity both professionally and personally to be involved with Sheppard Air Force Base through the ENJJPT program,” Gagne told the crowd. “I’ve enjoyed working with so many wonderful people at the 82nd while also getting to know all of the amazing people who visit Wichita Falls through ENJJPT. “This community is extremely fortunate to have this Air Force installation nearby.”

She and her family have been ENJJPT co-sponsors of the Italian delegation since 2013. They greet new students when they arrive in Wichita Falls, allowing them to connect locally.

Director, Development Services Terry Floyd thanked Gagne and praised her efforts for SAFB and the entire community.
