Wichita Falls Faces Rising Flood Risk After Heavy Rain

Wichita Falls Faces Rising Flood Risk After Heavy Rain

Wichita Falls, Texas is currently dealing with serious flooding concerns after heavy rain swept through the Texoma area. With the ground already soaked from earlier rainfall, more water has led to standing water and potentially dangerous flash floods in many areas of the city.

City officials are keeping a close eye on the Wichita River, which is expected to rise above flood stage — a sign that the situation could become more serious in the coming hours.

Areas to Avoid Due to Flooding and Poor Drainage

The city has listed several trouble spots that are known to have drainage issues during heavy rain. People are strongly advised to avoid these locations:

  • Avenue E at Harrison and Giddings Road
  • East Scott and East Fort Worth Street
  • Rowland Road and Old Windthorst Road
  • Alabama Avenue and Lebanon Road
  • 1700 Block of West Rathgeber Road
  • Hampstead Lane and Harrison Street
  • Broad Street and 6th Street

Water levels in these areas can rise quickly, making them unsafe for drivers and pedestrians.

Power Outage Risk in Four Neighborhoods

City officials also warned that four neighborhoods could lose power due to rising water levels. Residents in these areas should prepare for possible outages:

  • East Side
  • Wranglers Retreat
  • Horseshoe Bend Estates
  • Part of Tanglewood Estates

No Evacuation Orders — But Be Prepared

As of now, there are no official evacuation orders, either mandatory or voluntary. However, the city recommends that all residents have a basic evacuation plan ready, just in case the situation worsens.

To support citizens during emergencies, local rescue teams and the city’s swift water rescue unit are already on standby. If needed, they will assist with any life-threatening situations.
