Wichita Falls Residents to Hold “Hands Off” Rally Against Federal Cuts on April 5

Residents of Wichita Falls will come together on April 5 for a peaceful rally called “Hands Off,” organized by the Wichita County Democratic Party. The event is part of a larger national movement, with over 500 similar rallies being held across the country.

What Is the Rally About?

The “Hands Off” rally aims to protest against budget cuts made by the Trump administration and the DOGE committee. Organizers believe these cuts could negatively affect many people in Wichita Falls, especially the elderly, veterans, and those connected to Sheppard Air Force Base.

Carroll Wilson, a member of the Wichita County Democratic Association, said the rally is being held to raise awareness about programs at risk and to encourage people to speak out.

“We are concerned about the future of Sheppard Air Force Base and the ENJPTT program. Also, we’re worried about funding cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. These programs help thousands of people in our area,” Wilson said.

Why Residents Are Concerned

Wichita Falls has a large number of veterans and military families. Sheppard Air Force Base is one of the biggest employers in the area, with over 17,000 employees. Any threat to its funding or programs could hurt the local economy and community well-being.

Wilson added that the rally also aims to hold elected officials accountable. “Sometimes, politicians don’t represent our interests. This rally shows them that we are watching and willing to speak up when needed,” he said.

Response from the Republican Party

In response to the rally, Steven Garner, Co-Chairman of the Wichita County Republican Party, shared his view. While he respects the right to protest, he also defended the DOGE committee’s work.

“We support people’s right to rally and protest. However, we are pleased that fraud and abuse have been exposed by the DOGE committee,” Garner said.

Rally Time and Location

The “Hands Off” rally will be held on Friday, April 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Park Central, which is near Scott Avenue and Eighth Street in Wichita Falls. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
