WICHITA FALLS — A Wichita Falls man is facing gun and drug charges after almost causing a car accident on Monday, March 17.
Stavonte Vaughn was charged with possessing marijuana in excess of four ounces but less than or equal to five pounds, as well as unlawfully carrying a weapon.
At 4:07 p.m. on Jacksboro Highway, a Wichita County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed Vaughn making an unsafe lane change and displaying his front license plate in the windshield of his Dodge Challenger.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop at Jasper Street and 29th Street and stated that she conducted a probable cause search because she smelled marijuana in the car.
The deputy claimed Vaughn told her he had a handgun in the car. The deputy reported discovering a Glock 23.40 caliber handgun with a loaded extended magazine and a.40 caliber magazine in the front passenger seat floorboard.
The deputy stated that she discovered a large bag of a green, leafy substance, baggies, a digital scale, and $1,630 in cash inside a black backpack in the backseat.
The green, leafy substance field tested positive for marijuana, weighing 4.68 ounces.
Vaughn was released Tuesday, March 18, after posting $12,500 in bonds.
