In a tragic case from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a 41-year-old man, identified as Raul Herrera, has been arrested and charged after allegedly striking and killing a 90-year-old pedestrian and then fleeing the scene. Court records confirm that Herrera faces a felony hit-and-run charge that resulted in death.
Who Was the Victim?
The victim has been identified as Roberto Deleon, a 90-year-old man. According to police, Deleon was struck while walking in the 1000 block of South 35th Street around 9:41 p.m. on May 10, 2025. He died at the scene despite emergency efforts.
An autopsy confirmed that he died from blunt force injuries, including head wounds, brain bleeding, and multiple rib fractures—all consistent with being hit by a car.
What Happened That Night?
According to a criminal complaint, several 911 calls were made after the accident. One caller said the victim’s head was “cracked open” and that the driver fled the scene immediately.
A second 911 caller gave shocking details—she claimed she was inside the car that hit the man. The woman told police that Herrera refused to stop, and she had to jump out of the moving vehicle to report the crash.
Inside the Car: What Witnesses Said
The female witness told police that earlier in the evening, she had been at home with Herrera and another man known only as “Chi Longo.” The three later visited a Mexican restaurant and a local bar, where they had drinks. Herrera was reportedly driving a red 2002 Ford Mustang convertible that belonged to a friend.
After picking up vodka and beer from a deli, they drove to a south-side auto body shop. During the drive, the witness said Herrera was driving “very fast” and recklessly. When she asked him to slow down, Herrera allegedly told her to “shut up, b—.”
As she looked at her phone, she suddenly heard Herrera yell “Oh s—!” followed by a loud thud—he had struck someone. She urged him to stop, but he kept going. When Herrera finally slowed down, the witness jumped from the moving vehicle to escape and report the incident.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Thanks to the information from the witness, police found Herrera and the red Mustang. The car had a large hole in the driver’s side windshield. Officers saw Herrera drop an empty beer can while walking away from the vehicle.
Inside the car, police discovered broken glass and what appeared to be human hair, which matched the type of injuries sustained by the victim.
Another person who was in the car, believed to be “Chi Longo,” also confirmed Herrera was the driver.
Herrera later confessed to driving the car after drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.
He is currently being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on $120,000 bond.
