A Michigan woman, Tammy Sandoval, 55, has been accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run that left a three-year-old child dead and two others injured. The tragic incident occurred on a Sunday night in Livonia, Michigan, when Sandoval allegedly struck Tia Robinson and her twin children while they were crossing the street after attending a local festival.
Three-year-old Khalil Robinson tragically died from the impact, while his twin sister, Khloe, and their mother, Tia, survived the collision. Police say that Sandoval fled the scene after hitting the family, continuing her journey home from a nearby fireworks show. She was arrested the following day.
Driver’s License Suspended
Investigators revealed that Tammy Sandoval did not have a valid driver’s license. It was suspended last year after she refused to take a roadside DUI test, Fox 2 reported. Despite this, Sandoval was reportedly still driving at the time of the fatal crash.
The Family’s Grief
Regina Robinson, the grandmother of Khalil and Khloe, expressed her heartbreak and disbelief to Fox 2: “Why would anyone keep going without stopping, trying to see if they’re okay, and can they help? Can they save them instead of driving off acting like they didn’t hit anybody?”
The twins’ grandfather, Michael Robinson, reflected on the special bond the children shared, telling Fox 5: “He would always go and take stuff to his sister, so if I gave him a piece of candy, he would take one for his sister and take it in there to her.
He was very loving toward his sister but they had their ups and downs though.” He also acknowledged the long emotional journey ahead for the family.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Sandoval has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her, which include:
One count of operating while license suspended, revoked or denied – causing death.
Two counts of operating while license suspended, revoked or denied – causing serious injury.
Two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident – causing serious impairment.
One count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident while at fault – causing death.
She is being held on a $600,000 cash/surety bond, with her next court date scheduled for July 10.
This heartbreaking case has left the community in mourning, and questions continue to be raised about why Sandoval did not stop to assist the victims in their time of need.
