Women Say They Found Two Naked Toddlers Wandering Around a Florida Neighborhood. They Were Shocked by Their Mother's Response

A Florida woman was arrested last week after neighbors spotted two naked toddlers wandering alone through their Hialeah neighborhood.

Heidy Teressa Diaz-Torres, 25, was taken into custody on Thursday, April 24, two days after the incident. She now faces a felony child neglect charge, according to Miami-Dade County public records.

Neighbors Discover Unsupervised Children

The incident happened on April 22 around 3:30 p.m., when two women found the children, ages 1 and 3, walking near the 700 block of West 37th Street, according to WPLG News.

One of the toddlers was able to tell the women where they lived. The women then walked the children back home. When they knocked on a window to get the mother’s attention, the mother, later identified as Diaz-Torres, allegedly shrugged and waved them off, according to the police report obtained by WPLG.

Concerned for the children’s safety, the women called the police.

Police Find More Alarming Signs at the Home

When officers arrived, they reportedly saw the children walk outside again without any supervision. The mother was nowhere in sight.

Believing the children could be in immediate danger, officers entered the home. Inside, they found Diaz-Torres, who appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.

Authorities also spotted two pipes with suspected methamphetamine residue in plain view, the report said. Police quickly contacted child protective services to intervene.

Legal Proceedings and Upcoming Court Date

Diaz-Torres was arrested and her bond was set at $2,500. Her next court hearing is scheduled for May 23.

As of Sunday, April 27, the Hialeah Police Department and Diaz-Torres’s attorney had not responded to requests for comment.
