The #1 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M continued their dominance, extending their win streak to 16 games while remaining undefeated on the road with two victories over Midwestern State on Sunday afternoon in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Lady Buffs Sweep Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference Action
With the wins, West Texas A&M is now set to return to Schaeffer Park next weekend for another set of Lone Star Conference games against Eastern New Mexico. The doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Canyon, Texas.
Game 1: West Texas A&M 9, Midwestern State 3
Midwestern State struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of a Lady Buff miscue to go up 1-0. West Texas A&M quickly responded in the second inning, capitalizing on another MSU error that allowed Cadence Colborn to score, followed by a passed ball to give the Lady Buffs a 2-1 lead.
Jordyn De Los Santos extended the lead in the third inning, blasting her 14th home run of the season. The Lady Buffs added more runs with an RBI bunt single from Colborn and a base hit by Brooke Janning to score Colborn, pushing the lead to 5-1.
Midwestern State fought back in the fifth inning, narrowing the score to 5-3 with a Haylei Acosta sacrifice fly and a wild pitch. However, the Lady Buffs put the game out of reach in the sixth, with another MSU error allowing Heaven Moreno to score, followed by Abby Howell’s two-run homer to left field, making it 8-3.
Janning (13-1) earned the win for the Lady Buffs, allowing three earned runs on five hits, with four walks and four strikeouts in a complete game effort.
Game 2: West Texas A&M 7, Midwestern State 1
In the second game of the day, the Lady Buffs started early, with Janning doubling to left field in the second inning to score Colborn and give WT a 1-0 lead. The Lady Buffs expanded their lead in the fourth inning, as De Los Santos hit a two-run double, followed by Howell’s RBI single.
Colborn added another RBI double, and Emily Liskai capped the scoring with a two-run single, pushing the score to 7-0.
Midwestern State managed their first base runner in the bottom of the fourth with a Paige Scanlin double, and a sac fly from Tatum Waller brought the score to 7-1.
Laci Peskey (13-2) picked up the win for the Lady Buffs, allowing just one earned run on three hits, with one walk and six strikeouts in six innings. Ava Sharp closed the game with a flawless inning of relief.
