"Here y'all kids go": According to police, a man gives candy to kids after shooting their mother in the back of the head

A man in Michigan has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the back of the head while her children watched.

According to local news station WDIV in Detroit, Zachary Fuqua, 39, has been charged with second‑degree murder in the death of 38‑year‑old Erika Sanders, court and jail records show.

What Happened Before the Shooting

In the days before the killing, Fuqua’s social media posts suggested he was troubled. On March 14, he reportedly wrote on Facebook, “Going out with a bang.”

Three days later, Sanders was at her home on Sterling Street in Warren, a city about 20 miles north of Detroit. Three of her four children were at home with her when the shooting took place.

The Shooting Incident

At about 5:30 p.m., Fuqua allegedly shot Sanders in the back of the head while her children were present. After the shooting, he did not try to escape quietly. Instead, prosecutors say, he acknowledged the kids and gave them candy before leaving, reportedly saying, “Here y’all babies go.”

Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Jonathan Mycek said in court:
“The defendant had no qualms with shooting his significant other in the back of the head in the presence of three minor children.”

Police Response and Arrest

Police arrived soon after and found Sanders lying face down at the home. Officers located Fuqua nearby and arrested him.

A judge ordered that Fuqua be held in the Macomb County Jail with no bond. He is scheduled to return to court on April 1.
