Chain to Shut Down Pharmacy in Wichita Falls

Chain to Shut Down Pharmacy in Wichita Falls

CVS Pharmacy has announced it will close its store at 3201 Seymour Highway in Wichita Falls. The store’s last day of operation will be April 30. The company said the decision was not easy but was made after considering several business factors.

Why Is the Store Closing?

According to CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault, the closure is due to different reasons such as changes in population, shopping habits, number of nearby CVS stores, pharmacy needs in the area, and overall community health requirements. These factors help the company decide where stores are needed most.

Other CVS Locations Will Remain Open

Even though the Seymour Highway location is closing, CVS will still have two stores open in Wichita Falls. One is at 3601 Jacksboro Highway and the other is at 4600 Southwest Parkway. Patients won’t lose access to their prescriptions or services.

Prescriptions Will Be Moved Automatically

CVS confirmed that all prescriptions from the Seymour Highway store will be transferred to the Jacksboro Highway location. This will help make sure that customers continue to get their medications without any delay. Patients can also choose to switch to another CVS location or a different pharmacy if that’s easier for them.

What Happens to Store Employees?

CVS said that all workers at the Seymour Highway location are being offered similar jobs within the company. This helps ensure that no one is left without a job after the store closes.

Wider Changes in the Pharmacy Industry

CVS is not the only pharmacy chain making changes. In October 2024, USA Today reported that CVS laid off about 2,900 employees, mostly from corporate positions. The company is facing pressure from online competitors like Amazon and is earning less money for filling prescriptions due to lower reimbursement rates.

CVS’s competitor, Walgreens, is also planning to close around 1,200 stores across the U.S. over the next three years. Walgreens currently runs three stores in Wichita Falls.

About the Seymour Highway CVS Store

The Seymour Highway CVS was built in the year 2000 and has served the local community for over two decades. Its closing marks the end of a long chapter for the store and its customers in that part of the city.
