Wichita Falls city officials are making significant progress on the future of Sikes Senter Mall, months after the property was purchased. With growing interest from potential developers, the city is working to select a master developer that aligns with their long-term vision for the site.
Progress on Sikes Senter Mall Development
Since acquiring Sikes Senter Mall in October, city leaders have been actively pursuing master developers to breathe new life into the property. Mayor Tim Short stated that the city is currently conducting interviews to find the best fit for the mall’s redevelopment.
“We’re looking at all our options,” Mayor Short said. “Would you rather have three people trying to buy your house or 12? You would talk to every single one of them. We’ve been doing that, and some are a good fit, some are not, and that’s why we’re interviewing them now.”
Addressing Rumors and Confirming Developer Interest
There were recent rumors that some developers had withdrawn from the project, but Mayor Short quickly addressed these claims. “That’s how the rumors get started.
People think we had a developer, but no, we’ve had many that came into town, which is why we moved ahead with the purchase because of all the interest we were receiving upfront,” he explained.
The city remains confident that the right developer will be found to transform Sikes Senter Mall into a new hub for the community.
Future Plans for the Mall
Looking ahead, the city plans to select a developer by the end of the summer. Once a developer is chosen, the sale of the mall property will proceed, with early projections indicating that construction could take approximately three years to complete.
The redevelopment of Sikes Senter Mall is expected to significantly impact the area, revitalizing the mall and contributing to the city’s growth and development.
