In April 2025, many Americans receiving disability benefits from Social Security will get another monthly payment. But not everyone will receive their check on the same day. The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a set schedule with four different payment days each month. That means the exact day you get your money depends on certain rules.
On April 9, 2025, a new group of beneficiaries will get paid. If you meet the conditions, your money could arrive that day. If not, your payment will come later in the month. Let’s break down who qualifies for this upcoming payment and what to expect.
Who Will Get the Disability Payment on April 9?
The SSA has split retirees and disability recipients into different groups. The group that will receive their payment on April 9th is Group 2. It doesn’t matter whether you receive disability benefits or old-age retirement benefits—if you’re part of Group 2, your payment is coming on this date.
To be part of Group 2, you must:
- Have your birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- Have started receiving your Social Security benefits after May 1997.
These are the two key requirements. If both apply to you, you’re set to get your money on April 9.

How You Receive the Money Also Matters
Even if you meet the requirements, how you choose to receive your payment also makes a difference. If you use Direct Deposit, your money will show up in your account on the same day, April 9th. This is the fastest and most reliable way to get your benefit.
However, if you haven’t set up Direct Deposit, your check might take a few more days to reach you. This could be by mail or another slower method.
What About the Rest of the Beneficiaries?
Not everyone will get their disability check on April 9. The SSA sends out payments on other dates for different groups. Here’s how it works in April:
- April 3, 2025 – Group 1 (for people who started receiving benefits before May 1997)
- April 9, 2025 – Group 2 (birthdays from 1st to 10th, post-May 1997)
- April 16, 2025 – Group 3 (birthdays from 11th to 20th)
- April 23, 2025 – Group 4 (birthdays from 21st to 31st)
So, even if you’re not in Group 2, you’ll still get your disability benefit—just on a different day.
How Much Will You Receive?
The amount of your monthly disability payment depends on your work history and personal situation. In 2025, thanks to the COLA (Cost-of-Living Adjustment), the maximum disability check is $4,081 per month. But this is the highest possible amount, and not everyone qualifies for it.
Most people receive a smaller check. Your exact amount is based on how long you worked and how much you paid into Social Security.
