An Alabama mother, Amanda Morgan, has been charged with murder and child abuse after allegedly leaving her two teenage sons—both of whom have autism—home alone, leading to the death of one of them.
Incident and Arrest
Morgan, 39, was arrested on Tuesday, following a months-long investigation into the tragic incident that occurred in October 2025, according to reports from WKRG. Authorities were called to the family’s home after a 14-year-old was found unresponsive and not breathing.
Upon arrival, police found the child dead with a blanket wrapped around his neck, which was determined to be the cause of his “accidental strangulation.”
Living Conditions and Additional Findings
Upon further investigation, police discovered that the home where the family was living lacked basic necessities, including air conditioning and running water. The house was also described as bug-infested and covered in feces.
In addition to the tragic death of the 14-year-old, the older child, a 16-year-old, was hospitalized for malnutrition after being left alone overnight with his brother.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Morgan was granted $440,000 in bonds at a hearing on Wednesday and has been ordered to have no contact with her surviving son, the 16-year-old. Her arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.
