A night out at Paddock Shops in Louisville, Kentucky turned violent, leading to several people being injured and two men, Malakhi Scott Weathers-Parker and Seth Jones, being arrested on multiple charges.
The altercation began after a perceived slight at a group of people, leading to a series of confrontations and a brutal attack.
The Incident
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the incident occurred on March 8, 2025 at the Paddock Shops, a shopping mall located in the eastern part of the city.
The trouble began when three individuals, on their way to dine at Malone’s, encountered another group posing for a photo. One member of the first group shouted “say cheese” to the second group, which led to feelings of disrespect by the second group.
Weathers-Parker and Jones, who were part of the second group, became offended by the comment and left the area after briefly interacting with the first group. However, later that night, they returned to the mall parking lot with a juvenile in tow to confront the first group.
Escalation of Violence
The confrontation quickly escalated into physical violence when the two groups came face-to-face. The attack was brutal:
- One victim was beaten with their own metal baton.
- Another victim was choked unconscious, suffering a concussion, skull fractures, and a brain bleed.
- A third victim sustained bruises and contusions all over their body, with a fourth victim suffering bruises on their leg.
The attackers, including Weathers-Parker and Jones, fled the scene after the assault, but the incident was witnessed by another individual in the parking lot and captured on surveillance cameras.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
On March 18, 2025, Seth Jones was arrested. His attorney, Nick Mudd, claimed that Jones acted in self-defense. “As the video evidence will show, Mr. Jones acted in self-defense when the alleged victims pulled out a deadly weapon, and Mr. Jones was forced to defend himself and disarm them,” Mudd stated.
The police issued a Facebook post on March 19, seeking the public’s help in locating Weathers-Parker, playfully referencing the “say cheese” comment in their message.
The post was shared humorously with the mention of “Mr. Pepper Jack” and “cheese heads.” Weathers-Parker was arrested on March 24, 2025, following the public appeal.
Lawsuit Against Paddock Shops
The incident has also led to a lawsuit filed by one of the victims against the Paddock Shops. The plaintiff, a woman who was injured during the attack, claims that the mall’s security measures were inadequate.
The lawsuit alleges that the mall had no surveillance cameras covering the parking lots and poor lighting. Additionally, the mall’s security response was allegedly slower than those of nearby restaurant employees and bystanders.
Attorney David Barber, representing the injured woman, said, “She was ambushed in a dark parking lot…This attack was foreseeable and preventable.”
Charges Against the Defendants
- Malakhi Scott Weathers-Parker, 20, faces charges including strangulation in the first degree, assault in the fourth degree, and unlawful transaction with a minor.
- Seth Jones, 20, faces two counts of assault and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor.
Summary of the Case
This disturbing incident highlights a violent escalation from a seemingly minor interaction, leading to serious injuries, multiple arrests, and legal action against both the attackers and the shopping mall. The case continues to develop as further investigation and legal proceedings unfold.
